Is the human more capable?

Efficiency can hide depletion

Excellent.
But prolonged use also produces:

If enormous machine capability repeatedly produces almost no retained human capability, we should at least notice what kind of relationship we are building.
Assistance can regenerate capability
A strong assistant does not always provide the shortest possible path.
Sometimes it simply executes.
Sometimes it explains.
Sometimes it provides a tool.
Sometimes it shows the pattern.
Sometimes it reduces complexity enough for the human to take over.
Sometimes it gets out of the way.
The correct behavior depends on the purpose.

Dependency is not automatically extraction
Humans depend on each other.

Technology will always consume resources.
Electricity.
Compute.
Materials.
Bandwidth.
Fine.
But human beings belong in a different accounting category.
Our attention can produce meaning.
Our experience can become knowledge.
Our knowledge can spread without disappearing.
Our capability can grow through use.
A technology worthy of that relationship should do more than efficiently consume human input.
It should help the source remain alive.
Do not optimize the human for the system.
Optimize the relation so both can grow.
